  • Mercury Cafe Denver, 2199 California St, Denver
Balanced Breakfast Denver meets every month, meetings are open to anybody that is passionate about the Music Industry. This month we will be hosting a panel on Public Media and Local Music with Sounds on 29th and Open Air Live and Local. Our speakers for this event are: Heather Dalton - Executive Producer for Colorado Public Television produces Sounds on 29th, a Colorado focused music and comedy variety show. She also collaborates with the incredible team at Colorado Public Radio to produce Open Air Live and Local. Dalton has been involved with the local music scene in different capacities for over 25 years combining her passions for music and public media. Jessi Whitten - the Music Director and Assistant Program Director of Colorado Public Radio's OpenAir, a new and independent music radio station found at 102.3FM in Denver and 88.3FM in Fort Collins. Jessi also serves as evening on-air host and curates Advanced Listening, a new music show that gives listeners the earliest access to what's next in music. Outside of CPR, Jessi is a regular contributor to NPR Music and has been featured on Morning Edition, All Songs Considered, and WNYC. Before coming on as the inaugural Music Director for OpenAir, Jessi worked at Radio 1190 in Boulder, taking turns as Music Director, Morning Host, and Volunteer Coordinator. Bree Davies - a writer, reporter and television host and producer born and raised in the Queen City of the Plains. An active member of the music community, she is the co-founder of Titwrench experimental music festival, produces an annual all ages music festival for MCA Denver and has consulted Youth On Record’s feminist-centric programming. Davies is host of Sounds on 29th on CPT12 Colorado Public Television and is the creator and host of the monthly live podcast, “Hello? Denver? Are You Still There?” at Mutiny Information Cafe. She was a longtime critic and columnist for Westword and has written for The A.V. Club, LA Weekly, Village Voice, xoJane, Alternative Press and more about music, art, feminism, DIY culture, addiction, and social justice issues. Davies is an advocate for all ages, accessible, inclusive, and autonomous DIY art spaces and music venues in Denver and has worked on legislation regarding artist housing and citywide housing affordability. (Twitter.com/cocodavies) Bring your questions and prepare for an amazing talk! ----------------- Originally started in SF by Stefan Aronsen, Balanced Breakfast brings together local music industry artists and professionals to meet for breakfast on a regular basis. Now with meetings in 27 cities around the world, attendees talk about actions they can employ that will help the local scene become a place where musicians & industry professionals can make substantial progress doing what they love (music). We are growing super fast and have benefited greatly from the help of breakfast hosts like Reed Fuchs & Mona Khalifa Magno. Leave a comment if you'd like to get involved.
